ON WRITER’S NEED NOT TO RELENT

I posted a mug recently on my Facebook page. It is a writer’s mug which says: “Anything You Say or Do may be Used in a Story”. How so write. Brandon A, Tream says: “A writer is simply a photographer of thoughts” I agree. We are saying you should show us the photograph of your thoughts by writing something today. Every writing is the work of creativity that reflects our Creator in us. Don’t trifle with your talent. Write, write, and write to develop the skill. In fact, write and write again, until the ink is dry. Refill and write again. There is no end to writing. Neither is there any particular way to write. just write and write and let the readers judge. The more you write, the better you become. Write something today and see the result. Cheers!

Caring For our Heallth

In view of the prevailing harsh economic climate, many people in Nigeria don’t care much about their health. But it is in self-enlightened interest that we must look after ourselves. anything short of that is tantamount to committing suicide. Here’s a post I am sending out on this platform on a very crucial part of the human body. Please note that it was first published on Veronica’s site. Enjoy it:

Daily ways to keep your kidneys healthy

Keep your blood pressure at the target set by your health care provider. For most people, the blood pressure target is less than 140/90 mm Hg. This can delay or prevent kidney failure.
If you have diabetes, control your blood glucose level.
Keep your cholesterol levels in the target range.
Take medicines the way your provider tells you to. (Important! Certain blood pressure medicines called ACE inhibitors and ARBs may protect your kidneys. Ask your health care provider for more information.)
Cut back on salt. Aim for less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium each day.
Choose foods that are healthy for your heart: fresh fruits, fresh or frozen vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy foods.
Limit your alcohol intake.
Be more physically active.
Lose weight if you are overweight.
If you smoke, take steps to quit. Cigarette smoking can make kidney damage worse.image

A Bleeding Homeland

I did a poem recently under the above title. Actually entitled “Lamentations of a Bleeding Homeland,” it was a poem written in fierce anger about the happenings in Nigeria. The stealing of commonwealth resources by a few who found their way into the corridors of power, the relentless discovery of how this stealing was executed, and the hoopla associated with these unsightly unearthing, have become not just worrisome but mind-boggling and a constant irritation. How on earth could a people be so depraved as to steal their own property in such a brazen and shameless manner? Now wait for this: a lot of equally demented people, among them professionals – journalists, doctors, lawyers, academics and so on – are making a case for them by uttering childish comments like – they are not the only ones; come on, what’s the big deal, haven’t others done so in the past, why are we singling out these ones belonging to a particular party; they are my people and it is from our land that the oil was taken and so why can’t they take part of the money – and such hilariously sickening acquiescence. I believe that even if it is one person that is arrested and made an example, it is a battle worth fighting and winning. The other one reason why these supporters of the looters think Nigerians should look the other way is  that some of these looters are now in the ruling political party and should also be brought to book. Why not? In fact, sooner or later, these miscreants will also face judgment. However, once these present culprits are allowed to face justice, the others will naturally come under the prism of investigation and justice. The thing to do is to ensure that they all pay for their crimes. True and right-thinking Nigerians, who believe in its future must brace up for a fight. We must never allow politicians whether of the past hue or the present occupants of public office to fleece us again. Nigerians know their homes, their families and investments. We should no longer be taken for granted or for a ride.  A time comes in the life of a nation when we must all stand up and say: Enough is enough! I think this is the time.
